DEADBEAT HERO The Evil Rock Machine (CD)

DEADBEAT HERO plays some solid and screaming hardcore that hits you straight in your face since the opening track "MANIFESTO". The song also features, among the lines of its lyrics, the album title "it's time to let loose all our steam, to show some bad-ass attitude, LET LOOSE THE EVIL ROCK MACHINE".
The second track “R.I.P.” let's in some post-HC influences in a fast paced and angry number.

The sextet hailing from Hof, Germany started out in 2007 and before this new 4-track EP the guys released another EP entitled “Help” in 2009.
Like it happened with the first effort, also for the recordings of the new EP DEADBEAT HERO holed themselves up into Ghost City recordings studios where the likes of Archetypes, Semana Santa, Fear The Skyline paid a visit already.
Over the span of these 4 tracks the guys manage to capably mix modern hardcore influences to get a sound they live on their sleeves.
I'm just happy the guys got in touch to get their stuff reviewed.

TEQUILA & THE SUNRISE GANG Intoaction (CD)

TEQUILA & THE SUNRISE GANG from Kiel, Germany.
The nine-piece reggae-ska orchestra named after the famed cocktail (well not quite like it  really) seems that burst upon the scene around 2010 (this whether opening a fb account has been one of the first things they cared to do).
“INTOACTION” is their debut full-length record released last year through Uncle-M music.
Sunny, cheering up and laid-back music as the greats of reggae-ska used to play, with something in between to spice the plate up, and many still love to listen to to chill-out on a Caribeean beach while sipping their favourite frozen cocktail or nonalcoholic drink, if that suits them more.
Nice record, really.

REBELS BAY Carry On (CD)

REBELS BAY debut EP "CARRY ON" opens up with valve-warm cruncy one-power-chord guitar, drums come in next to builds up to a rockish lead and then the Mike-Ness-esque voice of Al (guitar-voice) starts singing some lines about the struggle in life and the will to never give up bearing in mind that at some point there isn't actually really much to prove (the title of the song). Going on through the verses the vocals from Al get much of that awkward-nasal- Husker Dü's Bob Mould feel to it.
From this bit of references I lined up you may know imagine what this tree-piece hailing from Riva Del Garda, North Italy play.
“Carry On” packs 6 tracks of punk and roll in the vein of Social Distortion, Rancid, The Clash and 77's punk.
“Wild Heart And Broken Bones” whips with its pulsing and energetically strummed bass (if you go to their fb page you can watch the official clip they shot for this song).
“Billy's Legend”, 4th track, is a punk rock number that reminds me early Rancid, Lars Frederiksen and Op. Ivy.
Closes up “Rebel Love”, an acoustic ballad-esque number where Al dresses-up the crooner attire to sing about a rebel love capable of taking his blues away.
REBELS BAY loves what they play and this breathe off every chords and note played in “Carry On”.
The EP is out through the dudes at Indelirium records.

SOME MISTAKES Glamorous Thoughts (7" vinyl)

This one is pretty old release. This EP entitled "Glamorous Thoughts" dates december 2010 and follows-up to the first demo the guys released some months earlier that same year.
With SOME MISTAKES, five-some from Atlanta, GA we wander through of realms of the more obscure and suffered hardcore. That blend of hardcore sound that piles layers of dissonant guitars over thick heavy bass sounds and is ripped through by desperate screams of singer.
A mix of sluggyness hears piercing noises heavy walls of guitars that reminds me of the likes of Unbroken, American Nightmare, Converge, Modern Life Is War and Italians Gold Kids.
The closing track "You've Killed The Boy" is the more melodic and punky of the lot.
Cover artwork and layouts much in 80's punk hardcore fashion.

TURN AWAY Time And Tide...Wait For No Man (LP vinyl)

Ludwigsburg / Stuttgart area, Southern Germany based TURN AWAY are definitely not a new name at its humbling beginning with the hardcore punk scene.
The quintet established in 2000 and has celebrated the 10 years milestone last year with the release of this full-length album out on vinyl format through the dudes at Lucifers Legions records.
“TIME AND TIDE...WAIT FOR NO MAN” packs some hardcore stuff that looks to as much at the old-school as to the modern-old-school of bands like Verse, Have Heart and Defeater (to name but a few).
If you liked their previous effort, the “To The Open Sea” EP, you'll will notice they've not brought in much to their sound (so you'll like this too!) but a better production that for those who don't like the too pro-tool-polished records will be more of a con than a pro.
“Demons”, the track number six, "Coherence" (partially sung in German) track #4 and "Screaming Against Your Ignorance" (cool title and poignant lyrics) track #5 are my favourite here.
Not bad really, TURN AWAY is a honest and passionate band but I have a feel they're more fun to check out on stage than on wax.

EVERYTHING IN SLOW MOTION Red (7" vinyl)

Facedown records' EVERYTHING IN SLOW MOTION delivered this two-track 7” vinyl in a very limited pressing of 330 copies at some point last year.
Two pretty long tunes of emotional post-HC material with tons of layers, effects and ambiance as a counterpoint to the hardcore vocals and some more heavy and metallic moments.
For the fans of Facedown rec.'s bands I have to let you know that Everything In Slow Motion is the brainchild of Hands' Shane Ochsner -a project he started out after Hands broke up.
Everything In Slow Motion is gonna hit studio in March to record their debut full-length.
Not bad!
