JET MARKET, POISON MY BLOOD, KICKBACK reviews

JET MARKET Sparks Against The Darkness (CD)

Roma's foursome JET MARKET definitely made it to make a name for themselves recording a bunch of solid records and spilling tons of sweat over the stages of the world over. I can say they are undoubtedly one of the best Italian/European export product for all who love modern fast melodic
hardcore-punk that crashes into skate punk and played in the manner of the likes of Belvedere, Propaghandi, Strung Out, A Wilhelm Scream -you know that stuff that manages to have guitar riffs, always equally catchy as well as hard/metallic enough to still be punk.
I got to review all their releases since “The Reverse Of The Medal” dated 2006 and I must say the band now channel in their writing memorable, more mature and yet chatchy melodies and this still playing at break-neck speed. They put apart some grindcore influences of 6 years ago.
Lyrically, the band is still rooted to its hardcore-punk origins and don't whine about girls and unhappy ending relationships but speak out their views about the fucked-up world we live in, hope (the title-track), and, whatnot, touring and hitting the road (“15 Hundreds miles for a 15 people show”).
“Sparks Against The Darkness”, 14 tracks that hold the formula for punk rock in fast track tempos and possesses a good amount of heart.
Still here reading my shit? Go and grab this album.

POISON MY BLOOD “The Countess” (MCD)

Landen's, Belgium POISON MY BLOOD new effort, a five tracks EP which follows-up to 2010's “The Great Northern”, is out now in both digital or physical form through Let It Burn records and its subsidiary Acuity music.
I had reviewed their debut record “Monuments” dated 2009 and I can feel over these years the Belgians took their sound and musicianship to a new level up.
They're playing post-metalcore with a desperate voice and a heavy load of metallic chugging riffs and dissonant layers guitars. I hear influences coming from modern math-metal Meshugah and math-corers Converge (check the track “Lightouse”), Colaesce, Poison The Well and The Chariot. “Obey The Sirens” is definitely a killer track that mixes intricate mind-boggling beats and some freezing slow-paced freaky dissonant rhythms.
I'm sure, like you all, I happen to listen to tons of similar bands since this subgenre of core world spawn out of the scene but these guys, with “The Countess”, prove to do everything pretty good not to go unnoticed. And fans of bigger US bands should definitely give a chance to this EU product.

KICKBACK Et Le Diable Rit Avec Nous (CD)

The first time I gotta review a release from this Paris based combo called KICKBACK. Though I know the band from some time now, earlier on I firmly avoided writing about their stuff being myself not much of a fan of the infamous tough-guy attitude they seem to want people to connect them to (some years ago there was this banner circulatin on the net saying "Want Some Violence? Go to a Kickback show!) and some anarco-terrorism references that I cannot evaluate either as the byproduct of some mere propaganda or something more meaningful for the French.
More than 20 years around, this "ET LE DIABLE RIT AVEC NOUS" is their fourth full-lenght and follows-up to 2009's "No Surrender" and see the trio deliver a very aggressive, at times chaotic, blend of metallic hardcore drenched with black metal influences, noise and some maddy beats and chord progressions that remind me of Converge.
After the 8th track kicks out you get two covers Geto Boys ('Mind of a lunatic') and The Brainbombs -bands I've never got the chance to check out before.
Not really my band.
