Palermo WHALES' ISLAND is back with a new EP

Starting last spring something was in the air, "rumors", at WHALES' ISLAND camp and it seems like, as history sometimes repeats, that one thing lead to another and to another again up to the point where the guys offially rebanded (I missed on the news dated May the 8th) to play a few show this summer, including the appearance at seventh edition of The Island's Revenge Fest in their home turf Palermo.
But the five-some didn't just get back together for the sake of playing some reunion shows and it's really fresh news they have recorded a couple of new songs at Palermo's The Basement for the new digital EP "Whales'Island MMXVII" that saw the light of the day on December 28th.

They shot a diy clip for the song "Don't Worry About It!". Watch it here https://youtu.be/pd_l1qfW3Ns

RUINED FAMILIES,  hardcore screamo band based in Athens,Greece, recently released a new full-length wax titled "Education" on Adagio830.

Germany's hardcore MIOZAN are back with a new record "Surrender Denied"

Heavy hitting old school hardcore from Germany barking loud and proud...

Shortly after forming in 1991, MIOZÄN started making waves in the Germany hardcore scene with
the release of their legendary "Offer Resistance" demo. That tape remained in the top ten reader charts of the underground magazine Zap, which at the time was the definitive voice of the scene. MIOZÄN quickly established themselves as a band that did not shy away from making political statements and taking a strong antifascist stance.
Over the years the band played countless shows, tours and festivals right across Europe together with a "who's who" of the hardcore scene - bands like SICK OF IT ALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, IGNITE or MADBALL. As well as the positive reviews that their releases garnered, MIOZÄN earned themselves a reputation for being a live powerhouse - as German magazine Plastic Bomb put it - "If they were from New York, they'd be immortal!".

Fat Wreck Chords signs THE BOMBPOPS

Read on the lengthy press-release about FAT WRECK's latest addition to their family...

As the saying goes, you have your whole life to write your first record, and only a few years to write your second one. SoCal punk quartet The Bombpops are still caught up in the first part of that saying, though: Formed in 2007 by co-frontwomen Jen Razavi and Poli van Dam, The Bombpops are just now getting their debut full-length, Fear Of Missing Out, out into the world. However, according to Razavi, there are a lot of very valid reasons for the delay.
First off, the intervening decade found The Bombpops endure an absurd amount of lineup changes. “We’ve had three drummers and six bass players,” Razavi says with a sigh. “Each time felt like starting over.” Adding to that was an opportunity to work with No Use For A Name frontman Tony Sly, who expressed interest in producing the band before his sudden death in 2012. “I had one of the best conversations in my life with Tony at Punk Rock Bowling in May, and then he passed away in July,” Razavi laments.

Hardcore punk band LAST LIGHT debuts new song "Conquer and Rise"

Rising hardcore-punk band LAST LIGHT, feat. ex-members of Unity, Uniform Choice, Ignite and
Outspoken, has released an incendiary new punk-rock anthem called "Conquer and Rise".
Conquer and Rise is a song about the fundamental insecurities everybody deals with. Sometimes it's wired into our life experience or sometimes these insecurities surface when we are challenged to perform or function outside our comfort zone. When fight or flight ensues we have the opportunity to advance or retreat. “Conquer and Rise” is the call to fight the questioning of self-worth, and the lack of confidence insecurity creates when we need to obtain or achieve a goal greater than we have before.” - Jae Hansel (vocals).

GUTTERMOUTH interview

by marcs77

Do you remember of So Cal, Huntington Beach resident, punk rockers GUTTERMOUTH? You definitely should because the band has been around quite a long time now –’88 early 90’s but perhaps you’re just too young and the name doesn’t say you that much as it actually does for the generation who was in their teens in the 90’s.
After 10 years since their last full-length release the guys are back with an EP doppietta; the first EP “Got It Made” was release last July and the second one, to be titled “New Car Smell”, is scheduled to drop on November 25th 2016 –both records are out through Bird Attack Records and Rude Records.
Years passed by, line-ups changed but Guttermouth didn’t lose any inches of their irreverence, sarcasm, wittiness and are still here to keep old punk rock spirit alive and kicking.

GAB DE LA VEGA launches a Bandcamp campaign to help the population of Haiti

Punk is always more than music, even when it's acoustic!
Italian punk-folk singer-songwriter Gab De La Vega has just launched a Bandcamp campaign to raiseawareness and funds for One Hundred For Haiti, a non-profit organization working to help the population of the Carribbean recently hit by Hurricane Matthew.

Here's his statement:

"Hey friends, this is very important. I guess many of you have seen the terrible pictures coming from Haiti in these weeks.
Hurricane Matthew hit this country very hard. Haiti is already struggling because of poverty and the consequences of an earthquake that happened in 2010.
People are in need of clean and drinkable water, shelter, food, medical assistance, and everything that is basic not just to live, but to survive.

Will GREEN DAY be still around in 20+ years like Rolling Stones?

A few days ago, while driving, I heard from the radio that GREEN DAY were releasing a new album "Revolution Radio", their twelfth, on Oct. the 7th and the band is booked to play four gigs in Italy, the last of them being hosted at Mediulanum Forum in Milano on Jan. the 14th 2017.
This "breaking news", kind of, hehe..., got two thoughts coming up in my mind; the first one, that led myself down memory lane when back in September 1995 (the date should be Sept. the 15th) I went with a bunch of friends to see Green Day in Milano in the same venue, a sport arena, then simply called Forum. It wasn't a long show, they played for less than one hour, and the stage was looking definitely too big for these Californian punks, freshly rocketed into rock stardom, after the release of groundbreaking "Dookie", but, you know, being myself pretty young and being Green Day a band I dug a lot at the time I'd enjoyed this show alot and walked out of the venue feeling like I had just attended something I would be reminishing about over the years -yet I would never ever thought to be writing about it 21 years later either.

MACHETE FUCK "Atavic Scars" demo now up in streaming

I'm bit of a partisan here being one of the band's guitarists, Michela (aka Michella Hall), one of our longtime writers. This being said I am happy to stream on our 'zine and introduce to you all MACHETE FUCK from Berlin, Germany.
The foursome features among its ranks ex-members of Discharge, Vagrants, Them Martyrs and Disgust and just released an 11-track demo entitled "Atavic Scars".
They play a blend of noxious extremely deafeaning d-beat HC metal punk with crust influences and doomy heavy slowed-down parts. So take bands like Discharge, Anticimex, Doom, Disrupt, Nausea, Hellbastard, Napalm Death, Converge, Nailbomb, Fudgetunnel and mix everything with Black Sabbath and Motörhead just to have a wee idea about what their music sounds like -if you're not accostumed to the genre yet. Anyway, definitely worth listening to them and watching out for their next moves.

TESTAMENT live in Milano July 30th 2016

words and photos by marcs77

It took me a life to go and catch Oakland, Bay Area based legendary thrasher TESTAMENT live and honestly I don't have any clues why. Was it that metal shows are too much of big events for me to attend –prefer the no barriers setting at hardcore punk shows? Was it that they weren't on the bill of the few metal festivals I went to? Was it that during the mid 90's when I was a teenager Testament were no longer at their peak of popularity, if they actually got really there any time?    -this band deserved more than what they achieved.
I got introduced to the Californian thrash metal pioneers at some point around the release of "Low" (1994), a record I bought as soon as it was out, and from then I went on looking for their older material that blown me away since the very first listen of songs like "Over The Wall", "Apocalyptic City", "Alone In The Dark", "Into The Pit", "Trial By Fire", "Disciples Of The Watch", "Practice What You Preach", "Electric Crown" and "Return To Serenity" to name but a few. The master thrash riffing by Eric Peterson together with the varied yet trade-mark vocals by Chuck and superb lead guitar work by Alex made the band, in my view, to stand among the greats of the genre, who helped to bring thrash metal to the heavy music fans.
In over 40 years of being a band, the inception of group actually dates to 1983 when they were named Legacy and they had Exodus' Steve "Zetro" Souza on vocals, the five-piece went through its share of line-up changes that, however, always saw great, talented musicians taking over on one instrument or another (drums and bass) -the likes of James Murphy, Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph, Kris Kontos, John Dette, Glen Drover played on albums or toured with the band.
Sorry for these side notes to gig report, which I thought to write for the hardcore punk and punk kid who may have not heard of Testament.

Iowa-based powerhouse, FOR TODAY have called it quits earlier this month and have now announced their final European tour.

Stated the band: "After over 11 years as a band, 6 full length albums and 1 EP, we have decided to make 2016 the last year of FOR TODAY. When we started this band in 2005, we never imagined that our music would make it out of Sioux City, Iowa, let alone take us all around the world multiple times. Our lives have been hugely impacted by the time we've spent making music and touring. We met our wives, had kids and moved to different states because of FOR TODAY.

The sludge veterans in -(16)- are pleased to share "Landloper," the latest single from their full-length "Lifespan Of A Moth" released yesterday July 15th 2016  via Relapse records.

-(16)-'s Cris Jerue: "The song 'Landloper' is a tension-filled little ditty that deals with the inner craving to quit everything and live off the grid. Or take up residence on a blanket at the beach. Or subsist in the doorway of a bank. It doesn't fucking matter. Just get yourself anywhere else as soon as possible and become a free, unfettered hominid before time runs out. It's easily the most negative, positivistic song on the record."

HARM DONE interview

by marcs77

I got to know Alexis and the DIY Straight & Alert label/mailorder, and recently zine, when this French guy befriended me on fb and started sending press-releases about the stuff he was putting out through his own label (rather old-schoolish East Coast NY HC stuff indeed including his old band Raw Justice) and then at some point, it was in 2014, like out of a hat-trick I've learned about this new band that named themselves HARM DONE; first thing that caught my attention was the grim blackened imagery of cover artwork and the German Gothic lettering they did choose for their band moniker. What these guys play? Old-school NYC hardcore? Straightedge hardcore? Well, as soon as I listened to their music I understood they were totally about playing some straight-forward, obnoxious, obscure blend of hardcore and everything in between from there to death metal.
HARM DONE is the new band Alexis plays in and their music, including the debut full-length “Abuse/Abused”, has been released on Straight & Alert.

Sweden's THE BRONCO released music video off new EP "State Of Emergency"

Sweden's punkrock trio THE BRONCO just released the music video for the song "State Of Emergency" off the eponymous new EP out through Longbay recordings.

The title track "State of Emergency" is very much inspired by the present political situation in their native Sweden, as it closed it’s borders last autumn and declared state of emergency. The same goes for Sound of Guns, written after a gang related shooting killing eight people.

Matt Dee (voice/guitar): "State of Emergency" is honest old skool punk-rock’n’roll, warts and all. I grew up with glam, pop and punk. This EP is a mix of all that music.
