COMEBACK KID + TEMPEST + WALK THE PLANK – Aug. 2nd, 2018 Circolo Magnolia, Milano, Italy

Almost an intimate concert for Winnipeg’s COMEBACK KID, at Circolo Magnolia, Milano, last night. But it has been an intense and sweaty one as those in the crowd can easily attest this.
The Canadians played a tight powerful show picking up songs from older records like “Wake The Dead” (2005) and “Broadcasting” (2007) and new ones; including “I’ll Be That”, for which they just released a music video, and that Andrew Neufeld stated they had rehearsed a couple of time only, with new bass player filling in for this tour, and he was likely to fuck it up forgetting the words (it didn’t go that bad, c’mon).

TESTAMENT live in Milano July 30th 2016

It took me a life to go and catch Oakland, Bay Area based legendary thrasher TESTAMENT live and honestly I don't have any clues why. Was it that metal shows are too much of big events for me to attend –prefer the no barriers setting at hardcore punk shows? Was it that they weren't on the bill of the few metal festivals I went to? Was it that during the mid 90's when I was a teenager Testament were no longer at their peak of popularity, if they actually got really there any time?    -this band deserved more than what they achieved.
I got introduced to the Californian thrash metal pioneers at some point around the release of "Low" (1994), a record I bought as soon as it was out, and from then I went on looking for their older material that blown me away since the very first listen of songs like "Over The Wall", "Apocalyptic City", "Alone In The Dark", "Into The Pit", "Trial By Fire", "Disciples Of The Watch", "Practice What You Preach", "Electric Crown" and "Return To Serenity" to name but a few. The master thrash riffing by Eric Peterson together with the varied yet trade-mark vocals by Chuck and superb lead guitar work by Alex made the band, in my view, to stand among the greats of the genre, who helped to bring thrash metal to the heavy music fans.
In over 40 years of being a band, the inception of group actually dates to 1983 when they were named Legacy and they had Exodus' Steve "Zetro" Souza on vocals, the five-piece went through its share of line-up changes that, however, always saw great, talented musicians taking over on one instrument or another (drums and bass) -the likes of James Murphy, Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph, Kris Kontos, John Dette, Glen Drover played on albums or toured with the band.
Sorry for these side notes to gig report, which I thought to write for the hardcore punk and punk kid who may have not heard of Testament.

BIOHAZARD + WALLS OF JERICHO + NO OMEGA at Radio Onda D'Urto Fest, Aug. 13th 2015

Last evening I drove out with my car to Brescia to attend the annual fest of local long time independent radio called Onda D'Urto. I'm glad I've managed to make it there since I got to see a great concert and without the possibility to make advance planning and arrangements I, by chance, hooked up with Walls Of Jericho's Candace Kucsulain, she was out of backstage wandering around through the stalls selling colourful-hippish dresses, who kindly offered a bit of her time to reply a few questions for an interview will be featuring shortly -this despite her confiding to me that she really had to save her road's worn out voice for tonite show.

Okay, let's start reporting what went on up on the huge festival-like stage the radio set up for the live music events they'll be hosting until 29th August (today is just the second day).

No Omega

The band that has had the usually awkward task to open up the gig, a few minutes past 9.00 pm, is Stockholm, Sweden's NO OMEGA.

NO BRAIN NO SHAME tour, Malemute Kid, Dear Dust, Low Dérive and Onoda

I got to attend the third stop of the tour No Brain No Shame at Honky Tonky in Seregno, some kilometers away from Milano.
The bands playing tonight hail from different areas of Italy like Torino, Bologna, Roma and Milan with the band called ONODA actually hailing from no-city banding together guys from Bologna, Cesena and Palermo. The four bands are taking around their commune effort in the form of a 4-way split 12” vinyl entitled “No Brain, No Shame” and freshly released on No Reason records and Lonely Raven records.
As the friend Turi (Onoda's drummer) said, it's a pity the house is not full like it happened the night before in Torino; he goes “there are really lotta gigs going tonight in Milano”. But it actually seems always like the case in the city lotta events are being held on weekend nights (and there's actually not "that" reference place that draws the punk hardcore kids).
ONODA opens up around 11.00 pm and despite the band being on an actual stage the singer makes clear that they are a hardcore punk band just jumping onto the floor and running in the pit as far off as the wire's mick allowed him to.

“Too much breakdowns” this is how this festival should be called, but we’ll come to this later.

I left for Bologna early but due to traffic issues I couldn’t catch nothing more than the last couple of song of CAPSIZE, playing in the almost empty venue. I got to suspend my opinion on this young guys, but I got to say they try to difference themselves with some delayed guitars from the classic metal core stuff but they hardly succeed.
NO BRAGGING RIGHTS was one of the bands I wanted to catch and they didn't disappoint.

THE SHRINE at Berlin's Cassiopeia 28th Sept.2014, visual show report

On September the 28th, 2014 power-retro-fuzz-rockers THE SHRINE, from Venice, Los Angels, CA, played a show at Berlin's Cassiopeia while touring Europe on their latest and sophomore record "Bless Off".
Gotanerve-zine attended the gig and our Michela with a buddy photographer interviewed the three-some, took pictures and shot a few videos to document this rock 'n' roll night.

NOFX + Agnostic Front + The Old Firm Casuals

I've had to wrap up the interview with AF's Vinnie Stigma cause at 8.00 pm THE OLD FIRM CASUALS timely hit the stage of Carroponte, Milano.
This band from San Francisco, I actually hadn't heard of until today, is around since 2010 and is the more recent Oi! project by Lars Frederiksen (Rancid, The Bastards), and has debuted their first full-length record "This Means War" just a few days ago. So the European fans are blessed to be the first to have a taste of what The Old Firm Casuals new stuff is all about when delivered from a stage.
The band plays well though I have the feel the reception from Milan crowd has been a bit aloof however, the guys have few good numbers like the pissed off hardcore "This Means War", "Perry Boys" (they shot a clip for this track) or "A Gang Like Us" which sticks to your mind at the very first listen and doesn't have to pray much for you to sing along top of your voice.
A more than decent enough opening to warm up the scant crowd in the pit while many of the kids are still queuing up to enter the concert area or just chilling out, feeding themselves and having a few drinks to gear up for the two headliners of tonight show.
The theme of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" gets cranked up by the PA system to introduce AGNOSTIC FRONT.

THE WONDER YEARS+HANDGUNS+4TH N GOAL live @ Tunnel Milan 26 Nov.2013

Tuesday night doesn't look like a good one to party and go see a band play live. Well, unluckly that's

perhaps something THE WONDER YEARS may have thought while up on stage staring at a half deserted Tunnel club.

But despite this, likely and embraceable thought, the six-piece pop punk outfit from Philadelphia didn't spare themselves a bit and delivered a passionate, sweat-socked and intense show for an intimate audience mostly made up by young kids who knew their songs and sung along (like during the mellow and rockish “The Devil In My Bloodstream”) and jumped around to higher a notch up the temperature of this bone-freezing night.
I spotted a young dyed-red-hair girl coming out the crowd with a glowing face and wearing a t-shirt stating “Pop Punk Is Not Dead”.

Low-class whores chew high-grade metal- HC

It can be hard to step out of one of the Hookers’ shows completely uninjured. 'Cause these low-class-escorts of "heavy metal thunder from Kentucky” have been on stage since the mid '90s and are still terrorizing audiences all around the World with their raw, rude and supreme hc-metal cocktail Molotov. And the same they did last Saturday at LO-FI, in Milan, while sharing the stage with El Camaro from the Netherlands and the Clamps and Razorboy Hate Rock from Italy.

The awesome setting of the Castello Scaligero in Villafranca (VR) suggested that something great had to come. No better place than a castle could have been chosen to host one of the kings of rock, forerunner of punk-rock and whatever came after 1967: IGGY POP...and his STOOGES!!!
