Now streaming Umeå hardcore's STEP FORWARD (1989-90 demos)

Umeå has been a hot bed for everything punk and hardcore with its "mainstream" popularity spike reached around mid ninethies with melo-skate-punk wave branded Burning Hearts records, and thanks to Refused's post hardcore take on punk to come.
Among punk hardcore sub-genres, Umeå can boast one of the first straight edge hardcore bands, together with Abhinanda, their name? STEP FORWARD -one of their band members formed Refused after the band called it a day.

ROTSCHRECK "The Transformation" a relic from UK's extreme metal

A relic from the past, "The Transformation" by ROTSCHRECK a Scottish, Dundee based, death metal, with a hardcore and groovy punch, that had their stint among the UK's extreme metal scene between the years 1996-2002.

Their sound shows all its influences still the record sounds fresh, and I love the doomy feel and brutal growls reminescent of famed Peaceville's death-doom bands era.

Grand Theft Age - Infame Società (sarà una risata che vi seppellirà) off "We Come From Your Hell"

Roma hardcore's GRAND THEFT AGE, around between 2004 and 2016, released their sophomore record "We Come From Your Hell" in 2012 through Scarred For Life records.
"Infame Società" with a bastard dirty Motorhead feel to it was released as single before to appear in the record.

OVERCAST Massachusetts' metalcore oldies but goldies

OVERCAST, forefathers, definitely pioneers, of US metal core, this way earlier the term was even recognized, reunited for a second time over 2014-15 year span to play some shows before Mike D'Antonio (Killswitch Engage), Brian Fair (Shadow Fall) and Peter Cortese started up the side-project Death Ray Vision (with three records out on Bullet Tooth records), and switched Overcast to perhaps definite hiatus mode.

Among their live videos up on YouTube (some capturing their '96/'98 period when the band was killing it) I've recently watched the show they performed at This Is Hardcore 2014 in Philly.

We're going through some crossover revival times. Actually, it's not the very first time, and you can bet this will happen again and again; here one among the original forefathers of this border-crossing genre, New York's M.O.D. (short for Method of Destruction) who, 30 years ago, debuted with the sickening sarcastic people-pissing off full-length "U.S.A. for M.O.D."

MISKATONIC UNIVERSITY - Live @ Superbowl Hardcore - Pescara 24/02/1996

I was recently going through the tales H.P. Lovercraft, the famed horror fiction poet/writer from Providence, wrote in the last years of his career going from 1931 to 1936 (the tales include the classics "At The Mountains Of Madness" and "The Shadow Over Innsmouth"). In these writings the uncanny name Miskatonic University, the fictional varsity located in the likewise imaginary city of Arkham, which comes up in several of his stories, took me down memory lane and made me think of a 90's harcore band from Ravenna, Italy.
The 4-piece band, bringing the same name of Lovercraftian university, has been around in the Italian and European punk hardcore between 1992 and 2000 and self-labelled their blend of metallic hardcore sounds and pulp culture infused lyrics Pulp-Core.
Before calling it a day the Miska released two full-length albums, the s/t dated 1993 and the 1995's follow-up "There Will Be Only One" on Boundless records (their own label), and 3 7" EPs.
In 1996, at the peak of their "career" (quote from the band), Miskatonic University played the Pescara Superbowl Hardcore on Feb. the 24th and somebody shot the video of their whole gig you can watch here -it was 1996 so don't complain about video and sound quality, which is pretty good all things considered https://youtu.be/CEk1DPnFZ3s

Oldies but always goodies: LIFE OF AGONY "This Time"

Got first introduced to this band thanks to a show aired in the 90's on the late Video Music channel and titled INDIES.
Attilio Grilloni, the host, was using big words to present this hot new band from Brooklyn, New York named LIFE OF AGONY and debuting on Roadrunner records with the album "River Runs Red". When the video of the song "This Time" kicked off...baam! How couldn't the host be more right about LOA?
Their music just blew me away big time -that break at around 1:24 to 1:38 and the song speeding up into the 1st chorus "You said, "I've got time"But you ain't got time for me" is just freaking awesome. The best mix ever of heavy doomy metal and melodic hardcore.

FACE THE FACT, Roma hardcore

A repost off a fb entry...

TO KILL definitively kissed everybody adios but today I found myself flipping through some oldies and I stambled upon Roma's FACE THE FACT a band which members moved on to form TO KILL after FTF disbanding.
Started out in 1999 FTF released 3 EPs, the latest titled "Romeo And Juliet Are Not Dead", out in 2003.
They played their farewell show in their hometown at Traffic on 9th June 2007.
Did any of you remember of these guys?

PANTERA's "Far Beyond Driven" 20 years and a few days later...

Not sure it's me only that somehow got out of the loop but I kinda expected to get to read tons of

celebratory blog entries, fb posts, tweets about that groundbreaking chart-crasher that has been Pantera (mark #2)'s fourth full-length record entitled "Far Beyond Driven". I didn't see any but, again, it can be me.

Twenty years a few days ago (March the 15th 1994) the metalmongers from Arlington, TX released their heaviest, groovier and brutal effort to that day -they possibly took the dirt and grime and blackness a full notch up with the 1996's follow-up "The Great Southern Trendkill".
I well remember Vinnie Paul (drums) during the interviews plugging this record with just one word "ABRASIVE". The guy kept going on and on...and it wasn't because he was suffering of lack of better terms to best describe their new soon-to-be-a-landmark album but in hindsight he could not pick a word as truly fitting as this, yeah "abrasive"!!!

An oldie: GHCP Govinda Hardcore Project ('93-'97)

When you get on FB you get to read an unbelievable tons of rubbish almost on a daily basis and just a tiny (compared to the 100+ posts up on the fb walls) quantity of informative, interesting and thought provoking stuff (okay, fb is not about this).
Earlier this morning I got to read a post about two 90's bands based outta Milan that fought out for their spot in the hardcore punk scene and who were outspoken about their personal Are Krishna beliefs.
