It could be there is a “new” scene or something of the sort going and growing faster among the today's multifaceted hardcore punk. It's been a while now anyway. Currently there are lot of these bands in Italy and a few good locals from my area as well, and I'd like to think the label «blackened screamo post-hardcore» to fit just fine for describing this genre that blends the raw primal heaviness of black metal, unconventional angular song structures, obscure atmospheres and crusty hardcore punk urgency.
France's POTENCE, our “hot new band to check out”, ideally embodies all of above though for sure there's more served on the plate.
The foursome hails from Besançon-Strasbourg and has an untitled 4-track demo out you can download for a name-your-price-deal off their bandcamp page.
When I first heard their music I really liked the songs that make up the very first recording of these Frenchmen so we've decided to email them a few questions to give the guys the chance to introduce this new band to our readers.

gan: First off, can you please offer a lowdown on POTENCE? Who plays what, where you from, when you started out...

These guys from Bologna remind me of early To Kill, or, going back of about another decade, and considering only the Italian scene, Roma's xPurificationx, but Germany's Wolf Down as well as a whole bunch of bands off the xCatalystx records catalogue come to mind too. Metallic hardcore punk with a socio-political stance to it.

gan: You guys started out not long ago. How did it all go?

gan: Hey BRIGHT LIGHT, please introduce yourselves to the uninitiated and readers of www.gotanerve-zine.com?

BL: What’s up ! We are Bright Light and we are straight from Silesia, Poland. There are 5 of us. Edi and Popek play guitars, Borsuk (Badger) plays bass guitar, PJ is a drummer and I’m Filip and I’m vocalist. We started our band in 2012 and we have played bunch of shows since then. We are trying to be as active and involved in our scene as we can.

A few words with the recentlty born band [‘selvə] from North Italy...

gan: Hey there, please introduce yourselves to the uninitiated and readers of www.gotanerve-zine.com

Hi, we are [‘selvə], we’ve been playing music together since 2013 and we’re from Crema, Lonigo and Lodi.

gan: How did you guys come up with your band name?

For some time we’ve had trouble finding a suitable name for our project, then a friend of ours suddenly came up with the name “selva”.
We immediately liked the name and chose it for us. This word stands for a place that perfectly represents the emotions and sensations we want to trasmit through our music: loneliness, obscurity and dismay. We chose to write it in phonetics to make it even more enigmatic and misterious.

gan: Do you have any stuff out?

We started writing some songs last september, now we have four, all of them are in our first cd “life habitual”. We recorded it this summer and it will be out on the 27th of october 2014 under the label Argonauta Records.

gan: What got you playing this genre and what are some of the bands you draw inspiration from?

We've not updated this page that much but this is certianly not due to the lack of new interesting bands outhere -actually it's the other way around.
