perhaps something THE WONDER YEARS may have thought while up on stage staring at a half deserted Tunnel club.
But despite this, likely and embraceable thought, the six-piece pop punk outfit from Philadelphia didn't spare themselves a bit and delivered a passionate, sweat-socked and intense show for an intimate audience mostly made up by young kids who knew their songs and sung along (like during the mellow and rockish “The Devil In My Bloodstream”) and jumped around to higher a notch up the temperature of this bone-freezing night.I spotted a young dyed-red-hair girl coming out the crowd with a glowing face and wearing a t-shirt stating “Pop Punk Is Not Dead”.
Well, for those like her there in the pit tonight this sounds so true but what about the others? Okay, I have a feel in Italy the genre haven't ever got that big a following it has in USA and UK (off the mainstream wave, in Italy, Blink 182, Simple Plan and Roma's Vanilla Sky are just a few names known by many while in the hardcore circuit we have lotta good passionate bands keep bringing the torch) so it's nothing as strange as it may look for The Wonder Years to get this kind of a low-key response.
With all above said, I'm personally happy I've got the chance to check them out for the first time (actually we were scheduled for an interview which got canceled). Isn't it “quality vs quantity”? An intimate show with a band used to packing bigger venues like the ones of famed Warped tour, could we ask for more?
The Wonder Years are on the very last leg of this European trek (tomorrow the 29th Nov. they play Madrid, Spain) following the release of their forth full-length album “The Greatest Generation” out via Hopeless records. The Italian kids can read our review of the record here http://gotanerve-zine.blogspot.it/2013/10/now-reviewed-terror-mora-end-of-season.html (Italian language)
