I'm – you are – we are...We are more than this!...screams out loud FINAL PRAYER's singer Stephan before the title track “I Am Not Afraid” kicks in. Someone may argue this but after eight years around the Berlin based quintet made it to become one of the most relevant among the European scene. We left the guys last year when they released an EP titled “Berlin” meant a sort of appetizer of the new full-length effort, their fourth, we're going to review here.
The formula of hardcore they play is the one their known for: heavy thrashing guitars, pounding drums a fierce voice that at times reminds much Hatebreed's Jasta. There's really a solid metal backbone here that seems to draw inspiration directly from some stuff from the 80's.
In the lengthy track “Mind Eraser” (opening up of the Berlin EP) they also fit in a cool guitar solo. And a track like “Nonbeliever” features some second voices in the chorus section which gives the heavy assault a pretty distinct mark.
Artwork job was handled by Vuki the guy who took care of Berlin cover as well as those of several German bands like Deliver, Teamkiller, Crisis Never Ends etc…
Who loves FINAL PRAYER won't be disappointed at all and those who're not familiar with these guys better they check this out.
The record is out on CD through Let It Burn records and in digital format via Acuity music (sub-label of LIB).

SUBWASTE Broken Machine (CD)
I was really lookin' forward to the new SUBWASTE. And let me say this straight, “Broken Machine” didn't disappoint me at all. Woaaa!
To give you a bit of a background info on this quartet hailing outta Orebro, Sweden (the hotbed for all punk things). SUBWASTE started out at the end of 2005 and released 4 outings including this latest effort -one MCD in 2006 titled “Straight Outta Underground” on RandyArchy records, two splits CDs, one with Tommy Gustavsson and The Idiots dated 2008 and the more recent one with their label mates Dead City Dregs, both out through Warbird Entertainment.
Early era punk rock is what they their offer. A blend just slightly updated to the more modern pop punk sounds of the 2000's.
These Swedish know their tricks to pen-down short, raw, stripped down tunes packed with memorable hooks and sing along bits that will probably have you singing along top of your voice with Tobbe (vox/guitar) and some more frantic moments to break loose some hell into the pit.
11 tracks (“Rotten”, the closing track, is featured on the split with Dead City Dregs) which make for a very good mix of the likes of Stiff Little Finger, Rancid (or Lars project), Bombshell Rocks, Social Distortion.
“Pay In Cash” has The Clash meet The Pixies (the reverberated guitar intro reminds me the melody of track off Pixies's “Trompe Le Monde” right now I can't grab in my mind).
Lyrics about everyday troubles, being punk and kick the fuck out.
Okay let me stop with these bullshits. If you're a fan of punk rock and just don't go after the likes of Rancid and other famed acts you must check SUBWASTE out. Fool if you don't.
