Today reviewed: CHRONIC HATE, FALSOS POSITIVOS, DRVGR, BURY TOMORROW and DESTINE

CHRONIC HATE Dawn Of Fury: Face The Decline By The End Of Humanity (CD)

An angry man with clenched fists rising out of a mob men's grey silhouettes, a black sun rising and battles fires on the horizon is what the front cover-artwork of CHRONIC HATE's debut full-length “DAWN OF FURY: FACE THE DECLINE BY THE END OF HUMANITY” delivers to your eyes to see.
In this digital era I think that imagery plays still a big part in the album package -though new many kids seem not to care much about this aspect- and the imagery used here as well as the-end-of-world-approaching brutal death metal played by the five-some hailing from Bibione, North Italy, matches really well.

8 tracks that unleash a brutal giganteus assault lead by the scorching low-end growl of singer Walter.
A mix of 90's death metal and modern extreme death that gives some room to technical intricacy and solos a la Meshuggah's Fredrik Thordendal.
This Italians recorded a solid work that those into these sonorities should definitely check out.

FALSOS POSITIVOS No Hay Tregua (CD)

Before start writing some thoughts that surfaced after the listen of this CD I really have to apologize with Izumi who sent out to us this record about one year ago and with the band for taking so long to write this review -fortunately differently to what happened with others in the past the guys are still around today (that's what I understand from their web spots) and they even recorded a new track titled “Fuerza”.
FALSOS POSITIVO is a young five-piece hailing from Valencia who released their debut full-length thanks to a Spanish-Italian co-production that sees six labels involved in this project.
"NO HAY TREGUA" offers 12 tracks of political, militante and social conscious old-school hardcore sung in Spanish.
Fast paced rhythms and vitriolic voices that scream lyrics like in “Nuevo Orden Mudial”...massacre en irak, massacre en vietnam, massacre en colombia, massacre mundial...guerra, guerra, guerra, guerra. Es el nuevo orden mundial.
Sticking to their DIY ethics and well away from the profit-based releases that flood the scene the guys put a label “NO PAGUES MAS DE 3€” (don't pay more than 3 Euro) on the backcover. And they also made this album available for free download off their bandcamp page.
If you are among those who keep away off the hip stuff you have to check this out.

DRAVGR De Ferro Italico (CD)

Second record from To React records that I'm reviewing today and the very first time I happen to review a black metal release. And I have to add I'm not much of fan of the genre as well.
DRAVGR are an Italian six-piece combo that formed in 2002 hails from Chieti, center Italy and “DE FERRO ITALICO” is their sophomore record and follows-up to 2007's “Nocturna Pagan Supremecy”.
They label themselves “Italic Hordish Metal” and describe their style as a mix of black-thrash-folk and epic metal. And I think that if you are accustomed with the genre you can make up yourselves what their main influences can be (I would say Dark Throne, Bathory, Amon Amarth, Immortal, Emperor, early Children Of Bodom but you know...).
Lyrically and conceptually they draw inspiration from the Italian pagan history, archaic traditions, old local legends of their land and tell stories about the ancient italic people like Samnites, Marsii, Vestinii and Marrucinii.
To fit more to the concept they sing in Italian, Latin and English.

BURY TOMORROW The Union Crowns (CD)

Nuclear Blast records branched out from their early punk days and 90's death metal period to sign bands of the various modern genres that we can fit in under the wider metal label.
Portsmouth/Southampton, UK's BURY TOMORROW are one of those young ensembles taking a chance with the huge popularity achieved by metalcore in the recent years. And considering the reviews they get, the features on popular magazine like Rock Sound, the tour with much talked about acts like Attack Attack!, Architects, Of Mice & Men, While She Sleep and the increasing fan base they're doing their job pretty well.
"THE UNION CROWNS" is their sophomore album that follows-up to their debut “Portraits” dated 2009 and out on Basick records.
Over these 14 songs they show to have learned all the tips and tricks to play the genre at it's best. And even after repeated listens the only thing that could make them stand out a wee bit is their propensity to give more room to the clean vocals and melody -of course, you'll be not missing your dose of brutal hardcore roars here but the mix is a bit unbalanced toward the clean/melody delivery.
The second track “The Maiden” is a prime example of these English's modus operanti.
Hard to tell these guys will stand the test of time but it is, at same time, harder to say they're worse than the other peers crowding and battling out in the today scene.

DESTINE Illuminate (CD)

All press-sheets you get from record labels or bands PRs are purposely written to quickly catch the attention of reader about the band to be reviewed as well as they highly praise the act as the new world dominatrix of the genre they play or the scene the combo burst out of. And I'd tell a lie whether I say that press for this release offers anything different -I don't how many of you care anyway but I just felt like writing this.
DESTINE hails from Tilburg, the Netherlands and are around since 2007. After the release of their first EP they got signed by Sony music and released their debut full-length “Lightspeed" in 2010. The quintet got to tour many countries and share stages with the likes of Green Day, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, A Day To Remember, New Found Glory to name but a few.
In 2012 their sophomore album “ILLUMINATE” hits store.
So, definitely they had much under their belts since the day the band came to life, right?
And “Illuminate” delivers 10 tracks of melodic hooks packed modern rock (in this genre you can't find anything that somehow cross-refers to the bluesy 60/70's rock roots) that move along the lines of the more famed names (I just don't wanna name) without offering anything really personal but the Dutch inflection/accent in their English singing that surfaces here and there -I don't know why I noticed this.
Yet, “Illuminate” can count on well written, sung, arranged and played songs which won't find it difficult to easily bring big smiles on the faces of genre's fans providing them with huge chances to soak their hearts in this mighty wall of melodies and sparks of youthful energy.
My favourites are the more pop-punk numbers like “Unbreakable” and “Thousand Miles”.
If all the stars are aligned the guys will do it to cut their own place among the melodic rock aficionados.
And let me say it give some points to the latest All Time Low -the we'll review asap- thanks to more cohesive sound and songs that go toward a definitely more coherent direction.
