Going on 15 years now São Paulo, Brazil's QUESTIONS has come really a long way, especially for a tight bunch of friends hailing from a troubled country, Pablo (guitar) still consider it himself to be a third-world nation (that's really not what media tell us here in Europe, right?...), rehearsing, playing local shows, recording their own material and making their dream to fly out to Europe and tour it more than once come true. All this and much more has been made possible by their endless love for music, the punk hardcore music itself as a means and outlet to express themselves and reach out to other like-minded kids all around the world and some solid DIY ethics that have been the real drive for the four-piece (the band line up is completed by Edu -vocals, Helio -bass and Daz -drums) since day one.
2015 saw the band putting out their forth full-length album titled “Pushed Out...of Society”, in Europe on Toanol records and in Brazil last September via Seven Eight Life Recordings.

WALLS OF JERICHO interview with Candace Kucsulain
by marcs77
I hadn't pre-arranged anything for this interview to happen but being at the Radio Onda D'urto show, where Detroit, MI's long-running hardcore powerhouse WALLS OF JERICHO were going up on stage right before the headliner Biohazard, I bumbed into Candace Kucsulain (WOJ's vocals) and jumped at the chance to ask her if she was up for a chat for an interview feature on gotanerve-zine.com. And not much of a surprise she was okay to reply a few questions just informing that she unfortunately had a pretty sore throat and wished to spare her voice as much as she could for the show -fully understandable but, however, it speaks volume about the dedication these guys have to their work and fans.
Read on what Candace had to say and be on the look out for the new album and follow-up to 2008's “The American Dream” to come out in 2016 via Napalm records.

LIKE TORCHES announce new album "SHELTER" out january 22nd on Ruderecords
The pop punk resurgence keeps going strong...
LIKE TORCHES have announced the release of their new album "Shelter", due out on Rude Records, the label the foursome recently signed with, on January 22nd 2016.
Singer Jonathan Kärn comments: "A big part of this album was written in a country house far up north in Sweden. With no cell reception, internet or human interactions. This was a great experience for all of us as a group, to connect and strengthen our friendship to a new level. It also helped us find the shape and sound that we wanted for this next album. The vibe of the album is emotional and angry, it's a compilation of everything that we have been through these past years. We have put everything we got into it”.
"Shelter" was produced and recorded by Ryan Key (Yellowcard) at Missing Man Recordings in Stockholm. Like Torches have a long time working relationship with Yellowcard’s own Ryan Key, who has produced both the debut and forthcoming record.

SAM ALONE & THE GRAVEDIGGERS sign with People Like You Records
Poli Correia’s (aka Sam Alone) music is a way to tell heartfelt stories about ordinary people that all of us can relate to: about growing up, everyday struggles and everyday heroes. For SAM ALONE & THE GRAVEDIGGERS he is armed with his “Working Class Rifle”, an old, rugged guitar, and accompanied by The Gravediggers, a group of likeminded people that share the same vision of playing handmade “music for the people” that is deeply rooted in folk and classic protest songs, but coming with a fresh and contemporary edge. The heavily tattooed singer and guitarist is no newbie in the international music world, together with guitarist Pedro Matos he is regularly touring the globe with the hardcore band Devil In Me. While their alter ego as Devil In Me is a lot louder the message is the same for both creative collectives: keeping a positive attitude while expressing the frustration about social injustices and ultimately striving for the world to become a better place. The road, friends and family are some of the main influences for the six piece band coming from Portugal that is another perfect example that great talent is thriving everywhere.
SAM ALONE & THE GRAVEDIGGERS have a new album, “Tougher Than Leather”, ready to be released all over Europe in early 2016. Get a first taste of it by watching the video for the title track that is surely going to make you tap your feet and snap your fingers, watch the clip here https://youtu.be/oU2IeLsShxQ

A THEORY OF JUSTICE interview
by marcs77
I remember attending a local Spleen Flipper gig for the release of their latest work “The Will To Kill” and opening up that night was Lodi's quintet A Theory Of Justice. It was a while I didn't catch up with ATOJ and when they started playing I've immediately got the feel the band was heading towards changes in terms of sound, being what I was hearing something more like darker and tense than the new school hardcore meets metalcore stuff included in their very first outing titled “Athena”, and I knew them for.
A few years went by from that show and last December 2014 the guy released a new self-titled EP that only confirmed the sounds they had been shooting for were very different from Athena's.
Their new stuff is reminiscent to me of Trustkill's metalcore as well as the darker chaotic angular math-post-hardcore-metal of bands on Deathwish Inc. records.
I emailed the band a few questions to learn first hand as much as possible about this change in sound, ATOJ (the EP) and get information about The Creature Fest and Clam association, +AMICI -STORIE and more...

Back to school reviews: ROUND7, CARNERO, TEAR THEM DOWN, AUGUST BURNS RED, ANCHOR, YORKSHIRE RATS, OFF THE HOOK, BAD COP / BAD COP, SADIST, MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS, WHAT I WANT, TERROR, FAT MUSIC VOL.#8
Beginning of June I received the latest stuff from Indelirium records and again the Molina Aterno, L'Aquila, Italy based DIY label confirms itself to keep its standards high thanks to a ever growing roster of very good and passionate bands and an enviable bunch of cool releases; these include a 10-track split featuring My Distance and The Memory, two Italian modern hardcore bands, whose previous outings have been reviewed here on gotanerve-zine -since, this time around, I won't be reviewing “Bridges” I just warmly suggest fans of modern hardcore that mixes melody, energy, chuggy riffs and heavy breakdowns to check this record out (The Memory has always a Comeback Kid feel to them while My Distance dirtied their sound with some heavy grooves and rockish influences).
Indeed, in this review run, I'm gonna feature two other interesting releases from Indelirium; one being ROUND7's debut full-length “No Excuse” and the second YORKSHIRE RATS' new album “Sea Of Souls” -the Brits return after a 9 years hiatus.
Let's get down first with Vicenza's Round 7, who follow-up their “United Kids” EP, out in November 2013, with this lengthy 12-song record entitled “No Excuse”.

BIOHAZARD + WALLS OF JERICHO + NO OMEGA at Radio Onda D'Urto Fest, Aug. 13th 2015
Biohazard |
Last evening I drove out with my car to Brescia to attend the annual fest of local long time independent radio called Onda D'Urto. I'm glad I've managed to make it there since I got to see a great concert and without the possibility to make advance planning and arrangements I, by chance, hooked up with Walls Of Jericho's Candace Kucsulain, she was out of backstage wandering around through the stalls selling colourful-hippish dresses, who kindly offered a bit of her time to reply a few questions for an interview will be featuring shortly -this despite her confiding to me that she really had to save her road's worn out voice for tonite show.
Okay, let's start reporting what went on up on the huge festival-like stage the radio set up for the live music events they'll be hosting until 29th August (today is just the second day).
The band that has had the usually awkward task to open up the gig, a few minutes past 9.00 pm, is Stockholm, Sweden's NO OMEGA.

DARKEST HOUR interview
by marcs77
Honestly I think I kept this interview lingering I bit way longer than everyone would expect, this being recorded last November in Milan, but, you know, I'm dead sure DARKEST HOUR fans will always be eager to read up what guitar player and founder Mike Schleibaum (he's a real dude!) had to say about the then freshly released new self-titled record, on how he backed my not so concealed critics on their move toward more poppier sounds, and among the other things how Darkest Hour and Machine "Fucking" Head are a badass bill for every metal bangers and diehard fans of these two bands who put their hearts in whatever they do and just rip the stages together.

'Graze' is taken from the new DOWNERS' EP 'Noose' out today August 1st 2015 on Local Colour Records
Those of you who like the indie, grungy sounds of the '90s will probably fall in love with this combo called DOWNERS that hails from North West, UK.
Are these sounds being favoured again among alternative punk music listeners? At the end of the 90's this was just one of those thoughts that oncel et out loud would have lot of people laughing in your face. If you were older enough you surely remember what I'm blabbing about. Rock was dead, punk was dead, grunge was dead!

Yeah, they're still around and kicking and have shared some good news about an upcoming 7" as well as about several new releases in the works for the coming months.

POTENCE is our latest "hot new band to check out", please do it...
by marcs77
It could be there is a “new” scene or something of the sort going and growing faster among the today's multifaceted hardcore punk. It's been a while now anyway. Currently there are lot of these bands in Italy and a few good locals from my area as well, and I'd like to think the label «blackened screamo post-hardcore» to fit just fine for describing this genre that blends the raw primal heaviness of black metal, unconventional angular song structures, obscure atmospheres and crusty hardcore punk urgency.
France's POTENCE, our “hot new band to check out”, ideally embodies all of above though for sure there's more served on the plate.
The foursome hails from Besançon-Strasbourg and has an untitled 4-track demo out you can download for a name-your-price-deal off their bandcamp page.
When I first heard their music I really liked the songs that make up the very first recording of these Frenchmen so we've decided to email them a few questions to give the guys the chance to introduce this new band to our readers.
gan: First off, can you please offer a lowdown on POTENCE? Who plays what, where you from, when you started out...

SAFE interview

ABATON & VISCERA///: "Diade(ms)" - Crushing Collaborative 7" out on June 23 2015
San Francisco Bay Area darkness-obsessed DIY indie label Sentient Ruin Laboratories is extremely proud and honored to announce the release of the collaborative work of two of Italy's finest, most forward-thinking and heaviest sludge/doom/post-metal bands around these days, ABADON from Forlì, central Italy, and VISCERA/// from Cremona, northern Italy. This 7" vinyl EP is the culmination of a long lasting friendship between the two bands and of a shared vision that has been nurtured and obsessed upon by the bands in the last couple of years.
Titled "Diade(ms)", this collaborative EP is the manifestation of the wills of both bands to materialize a synergistic, interwoven, and multi-layered work, in which the two bands become fused into one multi-headed hideous sonic monstrosity to materialize and represent their own vision of complete aural annihilation.
Abaton and Viscera/// are among the heaviest bands to ever see the light on Italian soil, and Diade(ms) is to be considered the collision between the two darkness-fueled and angst-ridden worlds of these two bands, and the implosion of both bands' aesthetics into a single, soul-crushing, and pulverizing void of aural devastation. All lovers of the most dismal and crushing sludge/doom and fans of bands like Thou, Year of No Light, The Atlas Moth, Amenra, Unearthly Trance and the such, should not miss out on this crushing, two-movement slab of suffocating heaviness.
Listen to the track Special Needs being streamed on CVLT Nation https://soundcloud.com/cvltnation/abaton-and-viscera-special

NO REASON records 2015 FREE Sampler now available
NO REASON records as just released a digital compilation up from free download for all who know what some of the bands on NRR roster are and who has never heard this DIY punk label founded by a bunch of friends in 2006 in a small town named Secugnago, which is located a few kilometers away from Lodi, Not California, North Italy.
The 17-track compilation features both Italian and international acts and about some of these we had the chance to review and talk even recently. I'm referring to bands like Torino's Malemute Kid, Milano's Low Derive and Roma's Dear Dust, but there are some staple names our loyal readers should definitely also know of and these are Roma's Jet Market (rip) and Bedtime For Charlie.

May reviews: A THEORY OF JUSTICE, ROTTING OUT, COUNTERPUNCH, GOOD RIDDANCE, NO BRAIN, NO SHAME split, ADOLESCENTS/SVETLANAS split, M.O.R.A., NAPALM DEATH, FINAL PRAYER
by marcs77
This new EP from Lodi resident A THEORY OF JUSTICE is out, as you perhaps have noticed, since last December (I've actually been at the release party they played at Clam) and it was really about time to make some deserved justice to the sophomore effort these guys worked hard on.
Their first DIY released recording “Athena” crossed the thin lines laying between new school hardcore and metalcore while, coming as a clear surprise for some, the new work shows up a sharp change in direction toward a sound that at very first listen reminded me of two of the most exciting bands in the damn forward-moving roster of Trustkill records; I am talking about that metallic angular (post)hardcore played by the likes of Nora and Poison The Well.
